What is a B2B email list?
A B2B email list is a set of business contacts. Each record has a person's name, job title, company and work email address, and often a direct dial or mobile number too. You use it to reach people in their professional role.
A consumer list is different. It holds personal addresses and is sold for selling to households. Kipplo only sells business contacts, and every record links a person to a company. That means you can filter on the person (title, seniority, location) and on the company (industry, size, technology) at the same time.
Is it legal to buy an email list?
For B2B outreach, yes in most markets, as long as you follow the email rules of the country you are sending to.
- United States
- CAN-SPAM. You can email business contacts without asking first. Every email needs an accurate sender, an honest subject line, your postal address and a working unsubscribe link. Honor opt-outs within 10 business days.
- UK and EU
- GDPR and PECR. B2B email usually rests on legitimate interest. Keep the message relevant to the person's job, say where you got their details in your first email, and make opting out easy.
- Canada
- CASL. Stricter. You need consent, but implied consent can cover a work address the person published openly, if your message relates to their role.
This is general guidance, not legal advice. Read our GDPR and CCPA pages, and check with your own counsel before a large campaign.
Is buying an email list a good idea?
It can be, if the list is narrow and fresh. Most of the bad reputation comes from bulk packages. Thousands of unchecked addresses are bought on a guess and sent all at once from a company's main domain. That is how senders end up blocked.
What works instead.
- Buy a segment, not a file. A job title plus an industry beats a whole country.
- Check before you send. Remove anything that bounces on the first send.
- Protect your main domain. Send from a separate domain, warm it up, and start with small daily volumes.
- Write to the role. A first line that fits the person's job matters more than the size of the list.
How much does an email list cost?
Providers price lists in one of three ways. Package pricing sells a fixed file at a fixed price, whether you use every row or not. Per-record pricing charges only for the rows you take. Flat pricing charges one price and lets you export as much as you need.
Kipplo offers two of these. The Unlimited plan is one flat price with no credits counted, so you export as many emails and phone numbers as you need. Credit plans suit smaller or occasional buys. One credit gets you the whole contact, email and phone included. On every plan, filtering and seeing the count are free. Compare plans.
How to judge an email list provider
Ask every provider the same six questions. Here is what a good answer looks like, and ours.
Questions to ask an email list provider| Ask | A good answer | Kipplo |
|---|
| Can I see the count before I pay? | A record count for your exact filter, shown for free. | Yes. The count updates as you filter, and browsing costs nothing. |
|---|
| What do I pay for? | No fixed package you only half use. | One flat price on the Unlimited plan, or per record on credit plans. |
|---|
| What happens when an email bounces? | A written refund or replacement policy. | Report it within 48 hours and the credits go back after review. |
|---|
| How fresh is the data? | Continuous updates, not a yearly rebuild. | Records are refreshed as people change jobs, then re-verified. |
|---|
| Can I filter on what matters to me? | Filters on the person and on the company. | 64 filters, from job title and seniority to technology and funding. |
|---|
| What do I get in the file? | Your choice of columns and formats. | CSV, XLSX, JSON, XML or SQL, with only the columns you pick. |
